STUDENTS CELEBRATE COMMONWEALTH GAMES PARTNERSHIP

TAFE Queensland students have celebrated our partnership with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games by competing in Games' themed events across the state earlier this month.

TAFE Queensland East Coast staff and students are celebrating the two-year countdown to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games by competing in Games’ themed events including basketball, mechanical wave riding, lawn bowls, table tennis, and rugby union competitions.

As the Training Partner for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, TAFE Queensland has the important role of shaping and training the 15,000 volunteers required to make a great games.

Staff and students from across the state will benefit from the partnership, with TAFE Queensland also announced as the presenting partner for the preliminary basketball events set to take place in Townsville and Cairns.

TAFE Queensland East Coast General Manager Dr Paul Wilson said the partnership will not only foster personal and professional growth for volunteers but also the wider TAFE Queensland community.

“This partnership will enable TAFE Queensland East Coast to provide students, our staff and the local community with a broad range of skills that will build employability and support growth in this region,” said Dr Wilson.

“Through an application process, our staff will be given a wonderful opportunity to be directly involved in training the 15,000 volunteers to give them skills that will last a lifetime.

“This week gives us an opportunity to celebrate being part of an organisation that has the capability to train and prepare the volunteers who will represent Australia on a global stage.”

As the Training Partner for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, TAFE Queensland has the important role of shaping and training the 15,000 volunteers required to make a great games.

This milestone partnership will see 350 dedicated volunteer positions made exclusively available to TAFE Queensland students and staff.

Through an application process, our students will be given a wonderful opportunity to be directly involved in the games as a volunteer, representing Australia on the global stage.

As volunteers, our students will play a vital role during the games, by providing guidance for those looking for direction, and by giving peace of mind to athletes and spectators who need to know that their experiences of the games are going to be memorable.
